tGO’s Predictions for the House: Republicans Win 227 Seats

Even though Larry Sabato is proudly proclaiming that 2010 is not going to be another 1994 for a variety of reasons, mostly consisting of hope and prayer, we predict that the GOP will pick up 49 seats to take it to a grand total of 227 seats and a strong majority in the House.

Going off of Sabato’s analysis, NYT’s House ratings, Rasmussen’s skewed polls and other surveys, and tGO’s intuition, it is highly likely that the GOP will win (back) the following seats, mostly from freshmen or class of 2006 Democrats, or from open seats:

The reasoning is that most of these Democrats were elected in 2006 or 2008 in Republican districts, during what were perhaps the worst years for the GOP since the Great Depression. A few other Democrats, such as Edwards in TX-17, Kanjorski in PA-11, Pomeroy in ND and Herseth in SD, will hold on to their seats because of the incumbent advantage of a long-tenured Congressman along with a moderate reputation. Sean Salazar was elected in 2004, but CO will likely kick him out along with Markey.

The GOP will lose:

LA-2: Cao

HI-1: Djou

DE-AL: OPEN

All 3 of these seats are Dem strongholds and a GOP Congressmen in them is really a freak of nature (LA, HI) or a legacy moderate Republican moving on to higher office (DE). It seems highly unlikely the GOP will lose any other seat, except perhaps IL-10 which is open but these 4 will be it in our belief.

So, GOP-DNC will be 227-208 after November. The GOP not winning a majority in the House seems like a distinct impossibility. The DNC and DCCC are on a MI-4 to prevent that from happening and there’s no Ethan Hunt in real life.

It only remains to be seen what other crazy legislation will be rammed through Congress after the elections once Reid-Pelosi LLC lose their lofty ledges in November.

Oh No, Obama: The Jobless Recovery Cometh

More bad news for Barack Obama, Democrats and the White House: the jobless recovery is officially here and it does not look good for them.

November is only 90 days away and we might just double dip too.

Methinks the Senate will slip out of their hands too.

Waters Now Rangles House Ethics Committee

Waters: Was What I Did Wrong?

Waters: Was What I Did Wrong?

It is now the turn of Democrats to take over the mantle of corruption and impropriety from the Republicans. First, Rangel and now Waters.

The trials seem little more than taking the political high ground by the Democrats in a year that promises to be quite possibly the worst since 1994. The GOP is expected to wrest control of the House and most likely the Senate as well, and the Democrats are trying to portray themselves as holding their representatives accountable, as opposed to the GOP that only covers-up its problem, as Hastert did with Foley.

None of this is going to help avoid a catastrophe in November, however.

Charlie Rangel: Guilty as Charged, But Here’s to Another 40 Years in Congress!

My Balls are THAT Big

My Balls are THAT Big

In what has to be  serious violation of its own internal rules, a House investigative panel found Charlie Rangel (D-NY) guilty of the majority of the charges leveled against him, including that he:

… received improper discounts on four rent-stabilized apartments he rented in Harlem, that he failed to report or pay taxes on rental income from a villa he owned in the Dominican Republic, and that he improperly provided legislative favors for a company that promised to give $1 million for an academic center named for him.

Charlie was seen a little later drinking it up with big donors for more checks to finance another 40 years in Congress.

The Dump Otherwise Known as Newark Has Banned Toilet Paper

Fat Man: Did You Wipe?

Fat Man: Did You Wipe?

Democrats in power tend to go overboard with almost everything they do, especially when it comes to spending our hard earned dollars, and then doing crazy things to conserve it when they run out of cash.

Now, Newark, NJ, isn’t the cleanest city in the world to begin with. But Democrat Mayor Cory Booker has decided to take that attribute just another step further. He has banned:

…the purchase of toilet paper

Having dirty government officials running around with excreta hanging out from their pants is not something any of us can look forward to.

But, when it comes to New Jersey, I suppose the additional excreta wouldn’t add to the bad smell.

Obama’s 2010 Desperation Showing

You know 2010’s going to be a bad year for the Democrats when President Barack Obama says:

It will be up to each of you to make sure that the young people, African-Americans, Latinos and women, who powered our victory in 2008 stand together once again …

…leaving the vast majority of Americans out in the cold.

Will the dawgs be let out again this November?

Unilateral American Concessions on Nukes, But Whither the Russians?

Admittedly, nuclear weapons are an anachronism in today’s world of guerrilla warfare and suicide bombing, but they still provide a useful deterrent to rogue states like Iran and North Korea. Nukes are still a psychological goal for any nation trying to achieve a position of military strength and understandably so.

As such, it makes little sense for the U.S. to voluntarily or unilaterally reduce its nuclear arsenal or usage scenarios, if nobody doing the same and if there exists a clear threat to the country.  These threats include terrorists getting a hold of nuclear weapons from North Korea, Pakistan or any other unstable nuclear state; China, whose nuclear program and intentions are still unclear; Iran, North Korea and other rogue states; a resurgent Russia; and so on.

The Obama administration has now proclaimed: Read on »

NY State Still Voting for Democrats?!

Governor Andrew Cuomo?

Governor Andrew Cuomo?

According to the latest Rasmussen report, Democrat AG Andrew Cuomo leads all his Republican opponents by double digits.

After the huge Eliot Spitzer scandal (who was an AG himself before his election), and the many, many, many scandals of all kinds involving the current David Paterson (this one, for instance), the massive state budget deficit to the tune of 9 billion dollars, huge cuts in essential services, and the overall state of the NYC economy, NY voters are amazingly still preferring Cuomo to Republicans.

New York Survey of 500 Likely Voters
March 29, 2010

Election 2010: New York Governor
Rick Lazio (R) 29%
Andrew Cuomo (D) 52%
Some Other Candidate 6%
Not Sure 13%
Election 2010: New York Governor
Carl Paladino (R) 28%
Andrew Cuomo (D) 51%
Some Other Candidate 6%
Not Sure 15%
Election 2010: New York Governor
Steve Levy (R) 26%
Andrew Cuomo (D) 50%
Some Other Candidate 7%
Not Sure 17

Some of this lead has to do with Cuomo’s massive name and face recognition in the state with his Clinton cabinet role and actions as NY AG. If he steps into the race officially and as the GOP candidates start spending more money, this lead could narrow, although it seems unlikely at this stage that Cuomo could lose if he actually runs.

What we need right now is another Ashley and it could be forthcoming.

What’s Really Bad About the Bill

The summary of the health care bill is as follows:

Cost: $940bn over 10 years; would reduce deficit by $143bn

Coverage: Expanded to 32m currently uninsured Americans

Medicare: Prescription drug coverage gap closed; affected over-65s receive rebate and discount on brand name drugs

Medicaid: Expanded to include families under 65 with gross income of up to 133% of federal poverty level and childless adults

Insurance reforms: Insurers can no longer deny coverage to those with pre-existing conditions

Insurance exchanges: Uninsured and self-employed able to purchase insurance through state-based exchanges

Subsidies: Low-income individuals and families wanting to purchase own health insurance eligible for subsidies

Individual Mandate: Those not covered by Medicaid or Medicare must be insured or face fine

High-cost insurance: Employers offering workers pricier plans subject to tax on excess premium

The Medicare expansion is good, as is the Medicaid one. Insurance reform is a good idea, as are the insurance exchanges to some extent. Subsidies can be good too. Expanding coverage to another 32 million Americans is an equally noble idea.

Now, the problems, in my opinion, begin with the first point – the enormous costs of the program. $940 billion dollars of money the U.S. government does not have. We are already spending a pretty 1.4 trillion dollars per year on average more than we have. $940 billion will only add to that.

Moreover, government cost estimates almost always prove to be far short of the actual number. Medicare, for instance,:

… in 1966 cost $3 billion. The House Ways and Means Committee estimated that Medicare would cost only about $ 12 billion by 1990 (a figure that included an allowance for inflation). This was a supposedly “conservative” estimate. But in 1990 Medicare actually cost $107 billion.

Medicare, in the most recent budget, costs 489 billion dollars. Medicaid costs another 264 billion dollars.

The Democrats told us in 1966 that Medicare would cost only 10 percent of what it actually did in 1990. They lied. Big time. And, they also had no idea how much it would really cost.

Pants on Fire

Pants on Fire

Fast forward to today. The Democrats are telling us Obamacare would cost only 940 billion dollars. The real estimate? 9.4 trillion dollars. That’s how much it would probably cost us in reality.

9.4 TRILLION DOLLARS. Who’s going to pay for that? Obama’s daddy?

Problem no. 2 is the mandate. Of course, Obamacare, and any liberal/socialist policy, wouldn’t be effective if people aren’t forced to adhere to it. So, we have fines and canings to force those disobedient little uninsured punks to buy Obamacare.

If I don’t want health care, I will not buy it. I will pay the fine, but I will not buy Obamacare.

The third problem, of course, is the end of comprehensive insurance coverage. Cadillac plans are nothing more than comprehensive health insurance plans provided by large corporations, such as Microsoft, that cover almost everything.

Covering everything from brand-name prescription drugs to physical therapy to preventative care to fitness programs to semi-elective surgeries to major operations, these Cadillac plans save tens of thousands of Americans tens of thousands of dollars each year.

What will happen if the tax goes through is that Microsoft will drastically reduce coverage, bringing everyone down to the Obamacare level. Henceforth, you want that physical therapy? Pay out of your own pocket. That’s what Democrats want – equally crappy coverage for all.

The last problem the summary left out is the increase in taxes. The rich will be taxed even further. Medicare taxes are being increased. Medicare taxes will be imposed on investment income.

Taxes, taxes and more taxes. That’s how Canada’s total tax rate is well over 40%.

Healthcare Reform Passed: Democrats Will Lose 33 in November

33 seems like an auspicious number. That’s the number of House Democrats who voted for the Obama-Reid-Pelosi Healthcare Destruction Act of 2010. And, that will be the number of seats the Democratic Party will lose in November, 2010, at the very least.

The 33 Democrats who are afraid enough right now to bring down the wrath of Pelosi & Co. on themselves:

Adler (NJ) Davis (AL) Melancon
Altmire Davis (TN) Minnick
Arcuri Edwards (TX) Nye
Barrow Herseth Sandlin Peterson
Berry Holden Ross
Boren Kissell Shuler
Boucher Kratovil Skelton
Bright Marshall Space
Chandler Matheson Tanner
Childers McIntyre Taylor
Cooper McMahon Teague

Time for them to kick the Congressional bucket.

Reid Wants Recess Appointments

When Harry Reid & Co. held up dozens of Bush nominees forcing him to recess appoint several of them, including John Bolton, to the UN, liberals were up in arms about Bush’s 171 extra-Senatorial appointments.

Now, that Obama’s nominees are being held back by Republican “obstructionism,” Reid claims:

I mean it’s disgraceful. The Republicans are holding these people up for reasons that have nothing to do with their background, morality [or] competency of these people. … I think, frankly, the President should recess [appoint] all of them. All of them. He has been given very little recognition for the importance of the job that he has trying to find the best people in America to fill this position. No one can say Democrats did this when we were in the minority — we didn’t do this. There were people that were held up, but this something that is beyond the pale.

On video:

Anything that Bush did was Satan’s work. If Obama does the same, it’s the people’s will. Oh, this is why I love Beltway politics.

Obama’s Magic Numbers Game

President Barack Obama wants to shave $15 billion from next year’s budget and $250 billion over 10 years. Let’s look at that closely.

The 2011 federal budget will be a colossal $2.713 trillion dollars, up from $2.381 trillion in 2010, according to the GPO[PDF].

$15 billion accounts for, let’s see, 0.55% of the entire budget.

Heck the increase in spending from 2010 to 2011 is 13.9%, which would give the inflation a run for its money. For simplicity’s sake, let’s shave off .55% from 13.9% gives us 13.35%. Or, 13% versus 14% increase.

That’s like saying, I want to buy the $2000 TV but I am not going to pay $20 for the HD antenna.

Who’s he trying to fool?

It Wasn’t Obama … It Was All Martha … No Really

Even God Doesn't Like Martha

Even God Doesn't Like Martha

Oh, it’s been only a few days since Martha Coakley was handed down a sweet shove up the ass by Massachusetts voters, the loss is being portrayed as being all her fault

[campaign aides] described a campaign that was too sure of its own success, that waited too long to call in the cavalry, that made key missteps, including focusing on abortion at the expense of the economy, and that did little to court voters in the communities that led Governor Deval Patrick and President Obama to huge victories.

…Coakley aides made no concerted effort to involve her three primary rivals or their networks and included the Kennedy family in the campaign only after the Kennedys themselves pushed the issue.

Coakley …  also lost the new media war, allowing Brown to generate far more attention online … they paid insufficient attention to the bread and butter of political campaigning, such as blanketing the state with signs and getting out and meeting voters.

Not blanketing the state with signs was probably the best thing she actually did. What a waste of money it would have been.

“She came in late, at the last minute, and people were frustrated,’’ said one Democratic activist, who, like most people interviewed, agreed to talk without being named. “They’re not happy with that kind of campaigning. If you get in there early, people feel respected.’’

The lapses were particularly noticeable in minority communities, traditionally bastions of Democratic votes, which did not turn out in high numbers Tuesday.

The election wasn’t a referendum on Obama’s policies. Really.

Obama and the Banks: More Unnecessary Interference

NYT is reporting:

President Obama on Thursday will publicly propose giving bank regulators the power to limit the size of the nation’s largest banks and the scope of their risk-taking activities, an administration official said late Wednesday.

This kind of interference in the private sector is what the Communists and Socialists do in third world countries to stymie growth and innovation.

Any restriction on bank risk-taking is against the very grain of American innovation. Without risk-taking, where would we be? Would we have any air travel had Teddy Roosevelt, a proponent of progressive ideas himself, restricted any such risk taking?

Banks, as corporations, exist to provide satisfactory returns to their shareholders. Preventing proprietary trading is like preventing Microsoft from making money from its investment activities, such as those highlighted on its website. Obama and Volcker want to stop just this.

No more money making. Banks shall be re-incorporated as 501(c)(3)s.

If the goal was and the mission in Afghanistan was to go in because we believed that the Taliban was giving harbor to terrorists. We supported that. I supported that. They’re gone. They’re not there anymore.

The Taliban wasn’t “giving harbor to terrorists” … the Taliban were the terrorists. I suppose Afghanistan has somehow been magically cleansed of all the Taliban, at least in Coakely’s mind.

Jimmy Carter: The Consummate Politician

When it was convenient for him to win the Nobel Prize and other accolades, Jimmy Carter would go around criticizing Israel and Jews.

Now that his grandson, Jason Carter, is running for public office from a district, Jimmy has changed his tune and is now apologizing for his past comments:

We must recognize Israel’s achievements under difficult circumstances, even as we strive in a positive way to help Israel continue to improve its relations with its Arab populations, but we must not permit criticisms for improvement to stigmatize Israel … I offer an Al Het for any words or deeds of mine that may have done so…

Carter told the news agency that he shouldn’t have named his book, “Palestine: Peace not Apartheid,” saying Palestinians in the disputed West Bank are not suffering under apartheid, though they could if a two-state solution with Israel is not achieved.

I never intended or wanted to stigmatize the nation of Israel, even though I have disagreed with the settlement policy all the way back to the White House

But, of course!

The Black Panthers’ “Get Out Of Jail Free” Card

The Obama Administration has been the Black Panthers’ Get Out of Jail Free card. We all remember the incident from last year when the members of this “party” were patrolling voting booths in Philly, and elsewhere, to prevent White/GOP voters from supporting McCain…

The Bush DOJ had filed suit against the perpetrators, but the new DOJ under Eric Holder dismissed the complaints.

The New Black Panther is now coming out openly in support of Holder, saying:

I think it’s a political witch hunt, part of the overall war that the Republicans are waging against Eric Holder in general … This is all about politics, not necessarily about protecting persons.

It certainly helps to maintain friends in high places.

More Free Cash for Automakers

The so-called Cash for Clunkers program is turning out to be another fantastic money-blowing technique for Democrats.

$1 billion of what will soon be coming out of our taxed-pockets has already been spent and the House has approved another $2 billion dollars.

It seems that the ones benefiting most from this free cash will be the automakers. While the cash may not pass on to the companies directly, we’re just paying off somebody or the other to stimulate sales just for the automakers.

For us, it’s not really free, since we’ll be paying for it soon enough.

I can understand financial incentives for purchases to boost economic activity, but how much are we underwrite the bad decisions made by Detroit over the past several years. What $40 billion spent already in so-called loans? Many more billions in investor value wiped out and passed on to the unions?

How about a Cash for Plane Tickets? Airlines are hurting and they do employ thousands. What about a Cash for Old Appliances? Wait, we already have that with the $1500 “tax credit” for energy efficient equipment and installations.

As an aside, where’s the money from the main stimulus plan? Where’s that $787 billion going? Why do we need to keep spending more and more?

Switching Back and Forth: Espada Should be Voted Out of Office

Did Espada’s constituents elect him so he can switch parties back and forth and manipulate his way into becoming the majority leader of the Senate? I don’t think so.

This should be his last term in office. This guy has a history of malfeasance

Legal trouble has plagued Mr. Espada throughout his political career. He has been fined tens of thousands of dollars over several years for flouting state law by not disclosing political contributions. In 2005, three employees of a Bronx nonprofit health care company run by Mr. Espada, the Soundview HealthCare Network, pleaded guilty to diverting $30,000 from programs for family care and AIDS treatment to one of his campaigns. Mr. Espada was never charged. The Bronx district attorney is also investigating whether Mr. Espada lives in the Bronx district he represents.

But will it happen? Probably not. A Hispanic Democrat from Bronx doesn’t lose elections. He dies in office, or goes to jail.

During the confusion and bickering that ensued as a result of the Democrats’ and Republicans’ decisions to hold separate Senate sessions in Albany, Democrats entered the Senate chamber through the backdoor and liked it.

Democrats locked the doors to the Senate thereafter, denying Republicans even the opportunity to enjoy a more natural entrance.

They then proceeded to introduce and vote on bills, including such momentous bills as legalizing same-sex marriage, promoting sodomy in state institutions of higher education, and paying for more sex-change operations in prisons.

“As we legislate on issues relating to gay marriage, promiscuity among our youth and sexual fulfillment in prisons, it is only appropriate we enter the chamber via the backdoor,” commented Kevin S. Parker, a Democrat from the Bronx.

Clinton Fractures Elbow, Disappoints Bill (Again)

Bill Clinton, a former President of the United States, was frankly outraged and quite disappointed that Hillary Clinton, the current Secretary of State, only fractured her elbow during a fall Wednesday, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Clinton Not Too Happy

Clinton: Not Too Happy

“I was hoping to move back into the White House for another 12 years. That bitch couldn’t even beat that [explicit] in the primaries. Then, she couldn’t convince the boys to appoint her Veep. I would have liked the Naval Observatory – can you imagine a constant supply of hot naval chicks?

“And, now, this. If she had been more seriously injured and admitted to the hospital for a few days, I could have enjoyed some guiltless debauchery without her constant prying. Ever since Monica, I haven’t been to have fun when she’s around. The only consolation has been her regular travel.

“But, no, she had to go and only injure her elbow. I am very disappointed, again,” Clinton was overheard saying to his buddies over drinks at his favorite club in Washington.

According to the same sources, Clinton has given an ultimatum to his beloved wife: she’d better create a serious enough crisis to oust Obama in the 2011 primaries or, at the very least, replace that Biden fellow in 2012, or else face divorce.

In international news, an advertisement looking for “chubby, sexual interns” regularly placed in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, newspapers has been traced to an Honorary Grand Commander of the Order of Logohu and was paid for in US Dollars.

Clinton, who is a member of that elite grouping, has made several covert trips to the Pacific Ocean nation in recent months. A spokesman for the Clinton Foundation refused to comment on this developing story.

Adam Smith – the Greatest Moderate Ever!

The Olympian is, in my opinion, nothing short of a sharply liberal newspaper. It endorsed Gregoire for Governor in 2008; it backed Obama, and every other Democrat it could find. It has obviously been fully supportive of Democrat Adam Smith in the 9th Congressional District. In an article from this week, Shannon writes:

Smith … has built a reputation as a moderate pro-business Democrat.

Let’s examine Smith’s so called “moderate” record. He gets a mere 85% from the ADA, and a shockingly high 4% from the ACU – if that is not the hallmark of a moderate, what is? Pelosi scores a mere 50% from the ADA, but is classified as an “S” presumably for being the current speaker, and glorious a “0″ from the ACU. Compared to her, it seems, Smith might actually be a moderate. But, let’s discuss that, shall we? Read on »
