The gun was photoshopped out - see the blurry hand?

Nelson Mandela’s African National Congress, which pioneered racial peace and reconciliation in post-Apartheid South Africa, is now actively promoting anti-White violence.

Or, so you could claim if you read the lyrics to the Shoot the Boer song recently being promoted by an ANC youth leader, a Mr. Julius Malema, who is a huge supporter of the current South African President and active womanizer Jacob Zuma:

Second Chechen War Redux?

Putin: Fishing for a Fight

Putin: Fishing for a Fight

One of the justifications Putin used to invade Chechnya in 1999 was the attacks on Russian soil prior to that war. There were,  of course, the so-called invasion of Dagestan by Chechen rebels and later the Beslan hostage crisis which were used as excuses to launch the offensive and then ramp it up.

Putin had been determined to establish his national security and nationalist credentials and Chechnya was the perfect opportunity. The loss of Russian territory as a result of the 1996 peace treaty negotiated by Yeltsin and his incompetent cronies had added insult to injury after the break-up of the Soviet Union.

Always the KGB man, Putin vowed to re-annex Chechnya in 1999 as somewhat of a Presidential campaign promise to bring back the glory of the Soviet Union.

Russia, under Putin and Medvedev, is trying to re-claim the Soviet super-power throne and, once again, we have somewhat of a crisis brewing in the North Caucasus (see this, this and this). And, not surprisingly, Chechen terrorists have allegedly struck again on sacred Russian soil killing civilians in the heart of Moscow.

We have already seen the Russian military flexing its muscles in weak Georgia in 2008. Another military intervention in the North Caucasus would be seen as a follow up to establish absolute Russian supremacy in the region.

Here’s to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Part II, and the Chechen War Redux.

UPDATE: Chechen rebel leader Doku Umarov has taken credit for the attacks. Video included below:

NY State Still Voting for Democrats?!

Governor Andrew Cuomo?

Governor Andrew Cuomo?

According to the latest Rasmussen report, Democrat AG Andrew Cuomo leads all his Republican opponents by double digits.

After the huge Eliot Spitzer scandal (who was an AG himself before his election), and the many, many, many scandals of all kinds involving the current David Paterson (this one, for instance), the massive state budget deficit to the tune of 9 billion dollars, huge cuts in essential services, and the overall state of the NYC economy, NY voters are amazingly still preferring Cuomo to Republicans.

New York Survey of 500 Likely Voters
March 29, 2010

Election 2010: New York Governor
Rick Lazio (R) 29%
Andrew Cuomo (D) 52%
Some Other Candidate 6%
Not Sure 13%
Election 2010: New York Governor
Carl Paladino (R) 28%
Andrew Cuomo (D) 51%
Some Other Candidate 6%
Not Sure 15%
Election 2010: New York Governor
Steve Levy (R) 26%
Andrew Cuomo (D) 50%
Some Other Candidate 7%
Not Sure 17

Some of this lead has to do with Cuomo’s massive name and face recognition in the state with his Clinton cabinet role and actions as NY AG. If he steps into the race officially and as the GOP candidates start spending more money, this lead could narrow, although it seems unlikely at this stage that Cuomo could lose if he actually runs.

What we need right now is another Ashley and it could be forthcoming.

Sania Mirza + Shoaib Malik in High Profile Cross Border Marriage

India+Pakistan

Pakistan + India= Dubai

India and Pakistan haven’t been on truly friendly terms ever since Pakistan came into its woeful and troubled existence in the late ’40s. The two have fought 4 wars and many more border skirmishes, most recently in 1999, and peace talks have hardly made any progress.

Cross border personal relations between civilians from the two nations have improved somewhat with bus and train services. These so-called “informal relationships” may just prove to be the key to long-lasting peace in the region.

In a high profile announcement, India’s most successful woman tennis player Sania Mirza will marry top Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik next month. Celebrations will be held in both countries, but, of course, they aren’t going to live in either and will move to Dubai after the wedding.

Alcatel-Lucent: The French Are Still Surrendering

Waving it Ever Higher

Waving it Ever Higher

In what seems to be the continuation of a long French tradition, Paris-headquartered Alcatel-Lucent has waved the white flag in its legal fight to defend some shady patent dealings.

After just 2 days into the lawsuit, ALU’s lawyers had had enough legal wrangling and decided to bring out the surrender card. They agreed to settle with the plaintiff and save the perennially loss-making company some amount of dough.

It’s always good to see the active continuation of a long and deeply held tradition, going all the way back to the Gallic Wars.

Dartmouth Parity Lawsuit to Die in NH Supreme Court

Dartmouth alumni have been trying to restore parity to the College’s Board of Trustees since the 2007 coup led by Charles Haldeman and his liberal cronies in response to resurgent conservative victories in recent Trustee elections.

Recently, the Grafton County Superior Court dismissed the alumni lawsuit that had been filed to invalidate the Haldeman take-over. The plaintiffs are now appealing to the NH Supreme Court to overturn the decision.

It seems unlikely, however, that the appeal will succeed. The NH high court is stuffed 4-1 with Lynch appointees, all undoubtedly liberal and beholden to the left.

The decision to affirm the Grafton court decision will most likely end up 4-1 with possibly Chief Justice Broderick the only dissenting vote. This will end effectively end any possibility of restoring Dartmouth’s long-standing position as the only educational institution that gave its alumni real governance power through democratic elections.

The College is already in deep financial trouble with its liberal administration spending away to glory with literally no accountability to anyone or oversight by any effective body. With the Board of Trustees firmly in leftist hands, any hope of responsible fiscal management at the College will be finished. Dartmouth’s decline to 2nd tier status has already begun.

Just ask the professors and top students literally fleeing to other colleges.

Dartmouth Sets Up Financial Hardship Fund for the Unemployed; Stupid SEIU President Critical

SEIU Local 560: Always Betting the Wrong Way?

SEIU Local 560: Always Betting the Wrong Way?

Dartmouth has always been a pioneer in providing financial assistance to the the needy in difficult times. Its Haiti Fund has become a model for other colleges and organizations to rapidly raise much needed monies for natural disasters.  It has been need-blind for U.S. students for a long time, but recently expanded the program to all students. Dartmouth had also eliminated loans for lower-income families and replaced many loans with scholarships.

And now, realizing that layoffs and budget cuts at the College are hurting many employees, Dartmouth has set up a special hardship fund to provide grants for:

unmet financial needs not addressed through the layoff package and loan programs

The fund has been accepting donations internally and will open to the public in April.

I don’t think any other college, business or organization of any sort has come up with this kind of a grant program for its laid-off personnel. Even though the grant maximum of $2,000 may not be enough to cover too much and the funds might get depleted pretty quickly,  it is still an excellent idea – a step forward.

But local SEIU President, Earl Sweet, isn’t happy at all. He is apparently “allowing” his members to take advantage of the program, as if the SEIU is doing the College a favor by participating in the program. Read on »

Iraq’s Latest Elections: Test for Democracy

The surest test for the strength of any fledgling parliamentary democracy is the peaceful transfer of power after an election or a stable coalition government resulting from compromises made by the largest parties in parliament.

Iraq is that juncture (again?). Former PM Ayad Allawi’s coalition has won 2 seats more than the current PM Nouri Al Maliki’s party. None of the parties has a clear majority and a broad-based coalition government seems highly unlikely in the near future. Further, Al Maliki has vowed to challenge the results and is determined to remain in power.

So, what’s going to happen next? An extended period of horse-trading, as it happened in ‘05? Or, another Saddam Hussein?

Did You Miss This? Obama Pays More Than Warren Buffet!

The Democrats’ profligate spending has created a historic situation in which lenders feel that it is safer to lend to Warren Buffet, P&G, J&J, and even others, than the U.S. Government:

Two-year notes sold by the billionaire’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. in February yield 3.5 basis points less than Treasuries of similar maturity, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Procter & Gamble Co., Johnson & Johnson and Lowe’s Cos. debt also traded at lower yields in recent weeks…

Moody’s predicts the federal government will lose its AAA bond rating very soon. And, this problem is not going to be fixed by saving $138 billion over 10 years.

Step 1 to Stop Obamacare: AG Lawsuit

The Attorneys-General of 14 states have filed suit to prevent Obamacare from going into effect. Their argument? The health-care reform bill:

…has violated the states’ rights as “sovereigns and protectors of the freedom, health, and welfare of their citizens and residents.”

Along with outside counsellers from litigation experts at Baker Hostetler, the AGs are arguing that:

The Act represents an unprecedented encroachment on the liberty of individuals … by mandating that all citizens and legal residents … have qualifying healthcare coverage or pay a tax penalty. The Constitution nowhere authorizes the United States to mandate, either directly or under threat of penalty, that all citizens and legal residents have qualifying healthcare coverage. … the Act exceeds the powers of the United States under Article I of the Constitution and violates the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution.

and,

…the tax penalty required under the Act, which must be paid by uninsured citizens and residents, constitutes an unlawful capitation or direct tax, in violation of Article I, sections 2 and 9 of the Constitution of the United States.

The 2400-page law that is Obamacare (PDF) mandating health insurance using fines and taxes as punishment can hardly be anything but unconstitutional.

Step 1 has started. Step 2 must go through in November by firing Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid from their jobs as Speaker and Majority Leader, respectively. An even better option would be to send them packing to the private sector, which might just happen in Reid’s case.

No More Religious Music in Western State Graduation Ceremonies

The Supreme Court has denied review of a case involving religious music at high school graduation ceremonies. An Everett, Wash., high school had banished all religious music from school programs beginning 2006 because a previous performance “drew complaints from some students and residents.”

In dissent, Judge Alito explained the problems with an overly broad interpretation of the 9th Circuit’s decision in the school’s favo:

School administrators in some communities may choose to avoid ‘controversy’ by banishing all musical pieces with ‘religious connotations…

The appeals court ruling might be extended beyond the context of religious music at graduation and lead to “wide-ranging censorship of student speech that expresses controversial ideas…

The plaintiff’s lawyer’s had argued along similar lines:

…the appellate [court] ruling represented “political correctness run amok.”

As with an institution involving liberals, especially those from the NEA, any ruling along liberal lines will be used to justify unnecessary restrictions on free speech, especially any that is even remotely religious or conservative.

The only good thing about this ruling:

[This] ruling … is binding on federal courts in the [Ninth] circuit’s nine states, which include California.

The rest of the nation is still somewhat safe from this ridiculous ruling. Had the Supreme Court accepted the case and then affirmed the circuit decision, we’d have the NEA banning religious performances in schools across the country.

What’s Really Bad About the Bill

The summary of the health care bill is as follows:

Cost: $940bn over 10 years; would reduce deficit by $143bn

Coverage: Expanded to 32m currently uninsured Americans

Medicare: Prescription drug coverage gap closed; affected over-65s receive rebate and discount on brand name drugs

Medicaid: Expanded to include families under 65 with gross income of up to 133% of federal poverty level and childless adults

Insurance reforms: Insurers can no longer deny coverage to those with pre-existing conditions

Insurance exchanges: Uninsured and self-employed able to purchase insurance through state-based exchanges

Subsidies: Low-income individuals and families wanting to purchase own health insurance eligible for subsidies

Individual Mandate: Those not covered by Medicaid or Medicare must be insured or face fine

High-cost insurance: Employers offering workers pricier plans subject to tax on excess premium

The Medicare expansion is good, as is the Medicaid one. Insurance reform is a good idea, as are the insurance exchanges to some extent. Subsidies can be good too. Expanding coverage to another 32 million Americans is an equally noble idea.

Now, the problems, in my opinion, begin with the first point – the enormous costs of the program. $940 billion dollars of money the U.S. government does not have. We are already spending a pretty 1.4 trillion dollars per year on average more than we have. $940 billion will only add to that.

Moreover, government cost estimates almost always prove to be far short of the actual number. Medicare, for instance,:

… in 1966 cost $3 billion. The House Ways and Means Committee estimated that Medicare would cost only about $ 12 billion by 1990 (a figure that included an allowance for inflation). This was a supposedly “conservative” estimate. But in 1990 Medicare actually cost $107 billion.

Medicare, in the most recent budget, costs 489 billion dollars. Medicaid costs another 264 billion dollars.

The Democrats told us in 1966 that Medicare would cost only 10 percent of what it actually did in 1990. They lied. Big time. And, they also had no idea how much it would really cost.

Pants on Fire

Pants on Fire

Fast forward to today. The Democrats are telling us Obamacare would cost only 940 billion dollars. The real estimate? 9.4 trillion dollars. That’s how much it would probably cost us in reality.

9.4 TRILLION DOLLARS. Who’s going to pay for that? Obama’s daddy?

Problem no. 2 is the mandate. Of course, Obamacare, and any liberal/socialist policy, wouldn’t be effective if people aren’t forced to adhere to it. So, we have fines and canings to force those disobedient little uninsured punks to buy Obamacare.

If I don’t want health care, I will not buy it. I will pay the fine, but I will not buy Obamacare.

The third problem, of course, is the end of comprehensive insurance coverage. Cadillac plans are nothing more than comprehensive health insurance plans provided by large corporations, such as Microsoft, that cover almost everything.

Covering everything from brand-name prescription drugs to physical therapy to preventative care to fitness programs to semi-elective surgeries to major operations, these Cadillac plans save tens of thousands of Americans tens of thousands of dollars each year.

What will happen if the tax goes through is that Microsoft will drastically reduce coverage, bringing everyone down to the Obamacare level. Henceforth, you want that physical therapy? Pay out of your own pocket. That’s what Democrats want – equally crappy coverage for all.

The last problem the summary left out is the increase in taxes. The rich will be taxed even further. Medicare taxes are being increased. Medicare taxes will be imposed on investment income.

Taxes, taxes and more taxes. That’s how Canada’s total tax rate is well over 40%.

Romney Criticizes Healthcare Reform Based on His Original Plan

The health care reform bill just passed by the House seems a lot like the one heavily promoted and signed by Mitt Romney in Massachusetts. In an article for the NRO, Romney claims:

His health-care bill is unhealthy for America. It raises taxes, slashes the more private side of Medicare, installs price controls, and puts a new federal bureaucracy in charge of health care. It will create a new entitlement even as the ones we already have are bankrupt. For these reasons and more, the act should be repealed. That campaign begins today.

How is this any different from Romney-care? Or has he had a change of heart since developing Presidential aspirations?

Free Testicle Removal and Infertility Clinic

The NHS of the UK should change its name to the National Horror Service, given the constant flow of absolutely blood-curdling stories of medical malpractice and even outright stupidity.

In the latest case, doctors at the West Suffolk Hospital, an NHS institution, removed the wrong testicle leaving the man infertile. They ended up removing both testicles, but, in the future, they will have:

…clearer instructions on marking and verifying sites prior to surgery.

Now, the hospital has been rated “good” and, most appropriately, its motto is:

Delivering safe, high quality patient care

because, apparently, removing the wrong testicle is completely acceptable and even commendable.

Sheehan: Gays Brought Down the Dutch Army and Allowed Srebrenica

The Dutch Could Have Prevented This

The Dutch Could Have Prevented This

The Dutch are all getting out of shape over American General John Sheehan’s comments about openly-gay soldiers in the Dutch army posted in Bosnia during the civil war there in the early ’90s. He testified before a Senate committee:

[the] socialisation process … included open homosexuality … led to … a focus on peacekeeping operations because they did not believe the Germans were going to attack again or the Soviets were coming back.

Soldiers from the Netherlands had just surrendered to the Serbians at Srebrenica right before thousands of Bosnian civilians were massacre and tens of thousands of refugees were “cleansed.” These Dutch soldiers posted as part of the UNPROFOR mission failed to protect civilians and just stood by as the Serbs murdered and raped to their heart’s content. The Srebrenica massacre is considered the worst mass murder of civilians since WW II.

Riding the high horse, Democrats and the Dutch were equally critically of Sheehan:

It is astonishing that a man of his stature can utter such complete nonsense…

[he was] totally off-target

The Prime Minister of the Netherlands has also waded into the fray, calling Sheehan’s comments “disgraceful.”

Sheehan could have been telling us the truth. Dutch gay soldiers were probably too busy smoking legal weed and having fun with each other to protect Bosnians. Their morale and fighting courage was probably entirely non-existent.

The truth is always hard to swallow.

Now, the annual budget deficit will hit $1.35 trillion dollars in 2010, down from $1.4 trillion in 2009. Out of that colossal total, Obama’s healthcare bill will cut a mere $138 billion over 10 years.

$138 billion over 10 years implies cutting the deficit by $13.8 billion per year. That’s like saving 1 cent for every dollar spent.

That will surely save the federal government from bankruptcy.

Rejected by Europe and regularly criticized in the West, Turkey is slowly turning its attentions and affections to the east. In the latest developments, Prime Minister Erdogan now describes Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a “friend”, claiming:

“Countries with nuclear weapons are not in a position to turn to another country and say: ‘You are not supposed to produce nuclear weapons,’” he said.

“Iran has consistently spoken of the fact that it is seeking to use nuclear energy for civilian purposes and that they are using uranium enrichment programmes for civilian purposes only.”

“That is what Mr Ahmadinejad has told me many times before.”

Abu Toameh: Hamas Wants a New Intifada

Wrongheaded

According to Khaled Abu Toameh, apparently:

The armed wing of Fatah, the Aksa Martyrs Brigades, on Tuesday called on the Palestinian Authority to give back the weapons it had confiscated from the group’s gunmen so that they could participate in the “Jerusalem Intifada.” The call came as both the PA and Hamas continued to accuse Israel of planning to destroy the mosques on the Temple Mount inJerusalem.

“We call on all the Palestinian security services in the West Bank to release all Palestinian fighters from prison and to give them back their weapons so that they can join their people in defending Jerusalem against Israeli aggression,” the armed group, which was supposed to have been dismantled years ago in line with understandings between the PA and the US, said in a leaflet distributed in Ramallah.

While Aksa’s actions can hardly be justified by any arguments, Israel hasn’t been promoting peace either with its plan to build more settlements in East Jerusalem, a plan decried by pretty much everybody.

Baby Killing In Europa: Soaring to New Heights

Baby killing, a.k.a. abortion, has been taken to new heights in Europe, where mothers now murder their infants after they’re born, as opposed to while they’re still in the womb.

According to the news story:

A 38-year-old woman acknowledged Monday killing six of her newborns, whose corpses were found in plastic bags in her basement, at the opening of a chilling trial in northwest France…

Her trial comes after a more highly-publicized case involving a Frenchwoman convicted last year of murdering three of her newborn children. Veronique Courjault’s husband discovered two of the corpses in a freezer while the two were living in South Korea. During the trial psychiatrists testified that she suffered from a psychological condition known as “pregnancy denial.”

Germany also has seen a string of similar cases. In one, a woman was convicted of manslaughter in 2006 and sentenced to the maximum 15 years in prison for killing eight of her newborn babies and burying them in flower pots and a fish tank in the garden of her parents’ home near the German-Polish border.

Why become pregnant and give birth to human beings only to kill them in cold blood? Hell awaits with all its fury for these pitiless mothers.

Musharraf Defends Record in Bellevue Speech

The former President of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf, spoke to a room full of ardent fans today at the Westin Bellevue. Much of his talk, just as his introduction by Kamran Salahuddin, dealt with the economic and social improvements in Pakistan during his tenure as President and with defending his record.

He started off by claiming that Pakistan brought down the Soviet Union by supporting the Taliban with American aid. The American abandonment of the region was the “great blunder” that led to the rise of Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, which may be true, and also to the rise of religious radicalism in Pakistan. Musharraf decried religious extremism in his country, despite the reality that the Pakistan Muslim League, which was a conservative Muslim party, fully supported him and the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, the party of the Mullahs, provided outside support which helped keep him and the puppet PML government in power. Musharraf tried to temper his anti-extremism comments, however, by stressing that Pakistan was, is and will always remain an “Islamic Republic” in which no law shall contradict the Shariah.
