Russia/India Want Their Own Stealth Fighter (After 30 Years)
11:52 pm, January 29th, 2010 on Miscellaneous
Almost 30 years after the American stealth jet F-117 Nighthawk was introduced in 1981, the Russian and Indian Air Forces are finally testing their own version of a stealth plane.
And, what a piece of junk…
“It’s just a prototype lacking new engines and a new radar,” military analyst Pavel Felgenhauer told the Associated Press news agency.
Originally scheduled for 2007, the T-50’s maiden flight was repeatedly postponed because of technical problems.
Observers of Russia’s recent military modernisation drive say it has been plagued by delays and quality problems.
Did Boeing have anything to do with the plane’s development?
Dinosaur-Bird Link Found; Dinosaur-Byrd Connection Still Elusive

Byrd: The Dinosaur
A newly discovered fossil is proving to be the missing link between dinosaurs and birds. Scientists have finally been able to figure out why a group of dinosaurs resemble birds.
Named the Haplocheirus sollers, the dinosaur had short arms and a large claw that are believed to be evolved independently of birds. The 3m-long skeleton was discovered in the Gobi Desert in the Central Asian nation of Mongolia.
“While we are excited to have discovered this unique dinosaur-bird connection, we are yet to understand why certain dinosaurs resemble Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia,” Jonah Choiniere from George Washington University told the BBC.
Researchers, however, feel excited about the possibility of solving the last remaining puzzle of the evolution. Several dinosaur fossils have been discovered that are believed to have developed hoods much later than Senator Byrd.
“We’re hopeful that the Gobi will finally yield us a fossil that will explain this Dinosaur-Byrd anomaly,” said Choiniere.

Orly Taitz

Orly Owl
Orly Taitz, the Obama Birth Certificate Hunter Extraordinaire, has filed another lawsuit, pro se, on Wednesday demanding a copy of the President’s birth record from the Secretary of State. It is, of course, a different matter that Hilary Clinton herself would have liked Obama to be disqualified way back in 2008.
This is after several of her previous lawsuits, on behalf of various plaintiffs, were thrown out by various courts. It seems like Taitz is truly obsessed by hope of one day seeing Obama’s actually birth certificate.
On a related note, it is interesting to note that several of our elected representatives also believe in the Birthers’ tales, courtesy, Mike Stark…
Get over it already.
Alito Rebuts Obama, Or So They Say, But Rightly So
12:44 pm, January 28th, 2010 on Politics, White House, supreme court
Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito Jr. had his own “you lie” moment last night during Obama’s criticism of the Supreme Court decision on restrictions on corporations during elections…
Alito responded to this section in Obama’s speech:
With all due deference to separation of powers, last week the Supreme Court reversed a century of law that I believe will open the floodgates for special interests –- including foreign corporations –- to spend without limit in our elections. (Applause.) I don’t think American elections should be bankrolled by America’s most powerful interests, or worse, by foreign entities. (Applause.) They should be decided by the American people. And I’d urge Democrats and Republicans to pass a bill that helps to correct some of these problems.
If Obama can be directly disrespectful towards the Supreme Court, with several justices in attendance, with his own uninformed opinions, I don’t see why Alito can’t express his own opinion.
Toyota vs. Ford vs. Volkswagen: The Curse of No. 1
12:25 pm, January 28th, 2010 on Miscellaneous

Not Helping Toyota
Toyota became the world’s largest car-maker in early 2009, overtaking GM. Since then, the company has been plagued by constant problems, making a loss in 2009 and continued losses in the first half of fiscal year 2010. The latest is a global recall of many of its vehicles because of “sticky gas pedals.”
Ford, on the other hand, declared its first annual profit in 5 years, making $2.7 billion in 2009. The company was profitable in every region, with its credit arm also making money.
Now that Volkswagen-Porsche has officially overtaken Toyota, if only temporarily, it will be interesting to see how that company fares.
Obama’s Proposed Education Reforms Are Not Quite Enough
12:32 am, January 28th, 2010 on Miscellaneous
In his State of the Union address, the President proposed the following reforms for higher education:
To make college more affordable, this bill will finally end the unwarranted taxpayer subsidies that go to banks for student loans. Instead, let’s take that money and give families a $10,000 tax credit for four years of college and increase Pell Grants. And let’s tell another one million students that when they graduate, they will be required to pay only 10 percent of their income on student loans, and all of their debt will be forgiven after 20 years –- and forgiven after 10 years if they choose a career in public service, because in the United States of America, no one should go broke because they chose to go to college.
Loan forgiveness is all well and good, but how about making more Stafford money available to students? These government loans are still stuck at a maximum of $20,500 per year while graduate school tuition rates alone have soared to an average of at least $31,000, with all other expenses additional.

Obama’s Magic Numbers Game
12:48 pm, January 26th, 2010 on Democraps, Economy, White House
President Barack Obama wants to shave $15 billion from next year’s budget and $250 billion over 10 years. Let’s look at that closely.
The 2011 federal budget will be a colossal $2.713 trillion dollars, up from $2.381 trillion in 2010, according to the GPO[PDF].
$15 billion accounts for, let’s see, 0.55% of the entire budget.
Heck the increase in spending from 2010 to 2011 is 13.9%, which would give the inflation a run for its money. For simplicity’s sake, let’s shave off .55% from 13.9% gives us 13.35%. Or, 13% versus 14% increase.
That’s like saying, I want to buy the $2000 TV but I am not going to pay $20 for the HD antenna.
Who’s he trying to fool?
France’s Attack on Religion
12:20 pm, January 26th, 2010 on Europe
While I wholeheartedly agree that the full face veil is detrimental to progress and entirely unnecessary, besides not being required in Islam, the government of any country does not have the right to determine or restrict the religious practices of any one group, within reason. The French Parliament is trying to do just that.
According to the French interior ministry:
… just 1,900 women in France wear the full veils.
And does the French Parliament find it necessary to pass an entire law just to restrict the religious activities of merely 1,900 women in all of France? Out of 5 million Muslims, merely 1,900 wear the full face veil. That’s 0.038% of the entire Muslim population in France. Out of a total French population of 62 million, that amounts to merely 0.003%.
Any law that applies to such a tiny percentage of the population is ridiculous. Any law that restricts religious practices is even worse. I could imagine a ban on human sacrifices by natives as something that could be acceptable, but restricting clothing choices is beyond reasonableness.
France already has a ban on “conspicuous religious symbols in schools,” which includes the headscarf, the yarmulke, the Sikh turban. It is using secularism as the excuse for restricting religious practices, just as Stalin used communism in the early 20th century.
It Wasn’t Obama … It Was All Martha … No Really

Even God Doesn't Like Martha
Oh, it’s been only a few days since Martha Coakley was handed down a sweet shove up the ass by Massachusetts voters, the loss is being portrayed as being all her fault…
[campaign aides] described a campaign that was too sure of its own success, that waited too long to call in the cavalry, that made key missteps, including focusing on abortion at the expense of the economy, and that did little to court voters in the communities that led Governor Deval Patrick and President Obama to huge victories.
…Coakley aides made no concerted effort to involve her three primary rivals or their networks and included the Kennedy family in the campaign only after the Kennedys themselves pushed the issue.
Coakley … also lost the new media war, allowing Brown to generate far more attention online … they paid insufficient attention to the bread and butter of political campaigning, such as blanketing the state with signs and getting out and meeting voters.
Not blanketing the state with signs was probably the best thing she actually did. What a waste of money it would have been.
“She came in late, at the last minute, and people were frustrated,’’ said one Democratic activist, who, like most people interviewed, agreed to talk without being named. “They’re not happy with that kind of campaigning. If you get in there early, people feel respected.’’
The lapses were particularly noticeable in minority communities, traditionally bastions of Democratic votes, which did not turn out in high numbers Tuesday.
The election wasn’t a referendum on Obama’s policies. Really.

Michael Steele’s Lack of Original Sentiment
The RNC Chairman probably doesn’t write his own press releases, and I would suggest getting a few more creative writers on board to enliven his boring statements.
On Christie’s inauguration in NJ:
Today I join with the people of New Jersey in congratulating Governor Chris Christie on his official swearing-in as the 55th Governor of the state of New Jersey. Governor Christie’s message of lower-taxes and less spending clearly resonated with voters in New Jersey who were looking for a solution to the failed economic leadership of the past. It is clear that New Jerseyans are ready to move into the future under Governor Christie’s leadership. A new day is dawning for the people of New Jersey and with this fresh start and conservative approach to governing, they have many reasons to be enthusiastic about the future. I wish Governor Christie the best of luck and I look forward to working with him on this continued expansion of Republican leadership in coming elections this fall.
On Brown’s victory in MA:
“Tonight, Scott Brown made history by exceeding all expectations and defeating Martha Coakley in the heart of the Democrat Party’s political stronghold. I extend my sincere congratulations to Scott, the Brown family, and his team on their tremendous come from behind victory to become the first Republican U.S. Senator from Massachusetts in more than 30 years. His message of lower-taxes, smaller government, and fiscal responsibility clearly resonated with independent-minded voters in Massachusetts who were looking for a solution to decades of failed Democrat leadership. There is no doubt in my mind that Scott will provide the representation and leadership they have asked for and deserve.
“Now that the people of Massachusetts have made their choice clear, the Senate must move quickly to seat Senator-Elect Brown so that the people have their chosen representative in the Senate as soon as possible. Over the past year, independent voters in Virginia, New Jersey and now Massachusetts have made their voices heard by sending a clear message that they’ve had enough of the binge spending and government-growing agenda coming from Washington – Democrats everywhere are officially on notice.”
Boring. No wonder, Steele isn’t really inspiring anyone at all.
Obama and the Banks: More Unnecessary Interference
NYT is reporting:
President Obama on Thursday will publicly propose giving bank regulators the power to limit the size of the nation’s largest banks and the scope of their risk-taking activities, an administration official said late Wednesday.
This kind of interference in the private sector is what the Communists and Socialists do in third world countries to stymie growth and innovation.
Any restriction on bank risk-taking is against the very grain of American innovation. Without risk-taking, where would we be? Would we have any air travel had Teddy Roosevelt, a proponent of progressive ideas himself, restricted any such risk taking?
Banks, as corporations, exist to provide satisfactory returns to their shareholders. Preventing proprietary trading is like preventing Microsoft from making money from its investment activities, such as those highlighted on its website. Obama and Volcker want to stop just this.
No more money making. Banks shall be re-incorporated as 501(c)(3)s.
The Obama Backlash Has Finally Begun
8:49 pm, January 19th, 2010 on Politics
Republicans have been winning elections lately, including the governor’s mansions in New Jersey and Virginia, but neither of those victories really represented an Obama backlash. Many deep blue states have elected Republican governors in tough times, in the midst of scandals, or in years with terrible Democratic candidates. The red camp is also helped if the candidate is a moderate, a so called RINO, or just very charismatic.
Hawaii elected Linda Lingle in 2002 and then re-elected her, Mitt Romney won in Massachusetts – in fact, moderate Republicans held on to the governor’s mansion in Boston for 16 years from ‘91 to ‘07 – New Jersey has had several Republican governors over the past twenty years. Vermont loves Jim Douglas.
So winning statewide elections for executive-level positions does not always relate to national issues. But, elections for the U.S. Congress are an entirely different matter.
Scott Brown’s election to the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts, a deep blue state that voted for Obama 62-36, signals a clear change. It also shows that the Republican loss in the Congressional election for NY-23 was a minor blimp, caused by unnecessary in-fighting among conservatives, led by Limbaugh, Palin, and other stupid Republicans.
Obama’s magic also failed to salvage Coakley’s sinking campaign. He claimed:
Martha’s opponent already is walking in lockstep with Washington Republicans
That seems to be the way to go right about now.

The Last Republican Senators From Massachusetts

If Scott Brown were to get elected tonight, he would be the first Republican Senator from the Bay State since Edward Brooke lost his seat to Paul Tsongas. Either of those are very big boots to fill for anyone.
Progressive Group Perturbed By Politics As Usual

Not Making Anyone Happy
The Progressive Change Campaign Committee feels betrayed by Rahm Emanuel on the health care issue. The group claims:
There’s nobody in Washington, D.C. who caves at the slightest hint of a fight with corporate interests more than Rahm Emanuel … We’re making clear to Rahm that when he undermines progressives and the overwhelming will of the American people on issues like the public option, he will pay a political price back home
PCCC will not support Emanuel if he decides to run for office ever again and has put out a petition for the cause.
Conservatives should sign up too – there’s no reason we would vote for Emanuel any way.

The Enforced Homosexual Agenda
12:12 am, January 19th, 2010 on Gay Marriage, Liberalism, Media
Two and a Half Men’s new episode tonight featured the parents of the protagonist Charlie’s fiancee. The father, who is initially depicted as a conservative “bigot”, comes out of the closet to reveal that he has always been in love with a man.
While the episode itself was better than most stuff that Chuck Lorre has been putting out recently, I had predicted that the story line would feature a closet situation once the character’s wife pointed out he was always on guard against the “homosexual agenda.” As with most other TV shows, movies, and books these days, the liberal media establishment is forcing the “homosexual agenda” down our throats.
Incidentally, I recently finished reading Ursula Le Guin’s The Telling and it is the same deal in the book as well. Aliens are depicted to have lower moral standards than humans, involving homosexuality that is widely accepted. In fact, Le Guin’s aliens are bisexuals who have no conception of marriage or fidelity or morality. Characters switch sex-partners freely, choosing from either gender, with little or no emotion involved in the relationship, if you could even call it that. Previously, in The Left Hand of Darkness, Le Guin depicts a world in which the aliens can choose their gender once every month.
While I believe in equality and all that good stuff, we don’t have to be constantly reminded that homosexuality is normal and gay marriage is inevitable. Gay marriage will not become right just because the media forces us to get used to the idea.

Afghanistan: Where’s the Stability?
The Taliban launched a brazen attack on the capital, Kabul yesterdays leading to fire fights close to the Presidential palace. The terrorists detonated a bomb in front of the Central Bank and then took over a shopping complex.
The fact that with 84,150 foreign troops and an additional 100,000 Afghan army troops in the country, the Taliban was still able to breach the regional headquarters, where you would imagine the security to be a bit tighter, doesn’t bode well for the international mission to stabilize Afghanistan.
Obama will have to re-think his plans for the country. A simple troop surge will not do the job. Afghanistan is vastly different from Iraq and the same plans will not work.
Afghanistan has not been stable for almost 30 years now. Iraq, on the other hand, was quite stable under Saddam Hussein. The Taliban, which is mostly Afghan with some foreign fighters, is used to long wars of attrition. In Iraq, most of the militants were outsiders. Afghan fighters have a clear source of revenue in the country’s poppy plantations; Iraq’s didn’t.
It may be time to sit down and talk with the Taliban. That is the only way left out of this mess.

Although Pinera has promised to continue the leftist social policies of the past twenty years, he was elected on a crime and economy platform. He says:
After 20 years I think a change will be good for Chile. It’s like opening the windows of your home to let fresh air come in.
20 years is a very long time for one side to rule any country.

Stupid Ayalon Should Be Fired
3:19 pm, January 13th, 2010 on Israel/Palestine, Middle East
Danny Ayalon, Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister, found a very easy to way to humiliate the ambassador of Turkey, which is Israel’s only ally in the Middle East, by:
… [making] clear that the ambassador was seated on a low sofa, while the Israeli officials were in much higher chairs … “there is only one flag here” and “we are not smiling”.
And over what issue? A “television series” that “depicts Israeli intelligence agents as baby-snatchers.”
Ayalon claims:
In terms of the diplomatic tactics available, this was the minimum that was warranted given the repeated provocation by political and other players in Turkey
Is this really good diplomacy towards your ally? Turkey was the first Muslim country to recognize Israel way back in 1949. The two have been close strategic allies over the past 60 years and have conducted joint military exercises, counter-terrorism missions and much more.
Israel has apologized to Turkey for its behavior. But, you can’t expect to kill your friend and then apologize for using a real knife.
Martha Coakely: Afghanistan Has No Terrorists
U.S. Senate candidate from Massachusetts feels:
I think we have done what we are going to be able to do in Afghanistan. I think that we should plan an exit strategy. Yes. I’m not sure there is a way to succeed. If the goal was and the mission in Afghanistan was to go in because we believed that the Taliban was giving harbor to terrorists. We supported that. I supported that. They’re gone. They’re not there anymore.
The Taliban wasn’t “giving harbor to terrorists” … the Taliban were the terrorists. I suppose Afghanistan has somehow been magically cleansed of all the Taliban, at least in Coakely’s mind.

Another Cartoon Brouhaha
1:07 am, January 8th, 2010 on Australia
Aussies have been angered by a cartoon in an Indian newspaper depicting their police officers as (racist) KKK members not interested in solving the murder of an Indian student in Melbourne, one of many recent anti-Indian attacks in several parts of Australia.
If this heinous crime were committed against a White Australian, we wouldn’t even have heard about it. But, since it was an Indian student, we have an international brouhaha on our hands. Given the recent problems (see this) involving foreign students in Australia, however, racism might have had a little bit to do with the crime. More likely, the case is as a police officer describes it to be:
[Indian students] travel home at night on public transport from part-time jobs, and carry valuables such as laptops.
The Australian government has several tools at its disposal to deal with the situation – one of which involves finding those at fault and making an example out of them.
