Fiorina For Senate – No More Hoffmans Please

Chuck DeVore is trying another to pull another Doug Hoffman on the State of California. We have a mainstream Republican candidate, a moderate female, Carly Fiorina, who is trying to unseat Barbara Boxer, but, DeVore is begging for attention by situating himself on the far right, possibly too far right for a blue state like California.

Looking at his position on a number of hot button issues, he seems like a candidate who could win in Alaska or Mississippi, maybe, but not in California.

Hispanics constitute 36.6% of the population and are projected to be a majority by 2020. Asians are a further 12.5% of the population. DeVore, however, does nothing to attract these critical electorates to his side.

On border security and immigration, DeVore opines:

Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, unlike Senator Barbara Boxer, has been a consistent supporter of completing a border fence along our southern border. Every nation has a sovereign right to secure its borders against the threat of drug, weapon, and human smuggling.

Chuck believes that any changes to our immigration laws must be fair to those who are following the rules overseas while honoring rule of law. Allowing a mass amnesty would violate these principles and would be grossly unfair to people living overseas who have been patiently following the rules in trying to come to America legally.

Once we get control of the borders, it is important to review our present system for issuing work visas, especially as it relates to California’s critical agricultural sector.

As an experienced lawmaker, Chuck has introduced bills to reduce incentives, such as government subsidies, for illegal immigrants to decide to live in California.

While his position may satisfy rightists, Hispanics and Asians, almost all of whom have come to this country as immigrants either on the work visa system or across the border, will not support him. DeVore wants to make life even more difficult for Hispanics.

Boxer, on the other hand, supports:

…comprehensive immigration reform that includes both a path to citizenship and tougher border security.

While DeVore wants to kick out illegal immigrants from California’s schools, Boxer supports improving educational opportunities for the same group.

While DeVore’s issues list is almost reactionary towards immigrants, Boxer highlights her support of Latino issues, with an entire issue point.

Who do you think Hispanics are going to vote for? Boxer or DeVore?

Carly Fiorina is talking of the most important issues on the table right nowsmall businesses and jobs, taxes, energy and health care – issues with which any American in a tough recession can connect.

I support Fiorina. She is a female, a moderate and mainstream – the perfect candidate to defeat Boxer. Malkin thinks DeVore is the “mainstream” candidate – mainstream perhaps for the 31% of the California population that’s registered Republican but not for the remaining 69%.
