Russia Finds Missing Freighter, Atlantis

Atlantis: Found

Russia announced today that it has found its missing cargo vessel near the Cape Verde islands, off the west coast of Africa, and has retrieved all crew members.

In a stunning revelation, the Russian spokesman also announced that their search and rescue team was able to locate and identify the long lost continent of Atlantis.

“During our exhaustive search of the Atlantic Ocean for signs of our ship, we found many things, the most prominent among which is Atlantis,” he said. “We are proud that the brave and courageous Russian peoples have made this great discovery. Hail Putin. Hail Stalin.”

Many scientists have been quick to dispute the Russian claim. “Atlantis does not exist. Hmphh,” said Dr. Garbanzo Gorgola, a prominent oceanographer at Harvard University.

Atlantis was first described by the Greek philosopher Plato as a great naval power in 9000 BC, based in the Atlantic Ocean. Proof of the existence of the lost continent, however, has been scanty and most scholars agree that it is merely a myth.
