Stop Faking It
Elections in Iran are merely window-dressing. The philosophy: let’s get ‘em to vote for a puppet head and they’ll be happy. Even the protests in Iran focused on the rigged elections, not on the illegitimacy of the entire Iranian regime.
Westerners were happy to see the “green revolutionaries” fighting to oust Ahmadinejad – a useless character, a mere talking head. Where was the “green revolution” to remove the Ayatollahs from power?
Twitter, apparently, played a big role in providing the protesters an outlet for their ideas. But, what was the end result?
Ahmadinejad is still in “power,” to the extent that he actually holds any real power. The Ayatollahs are still in control, still harassing and discriminating against the Sunnis, Bahais, Jews, Christians, liberals and anyone else who does not adhere to their extremist version of Shia Islam.
BBC is reporting that Khatami, a former President, is calling for a referendum on the “legitimacy of the government,” because:
millions of Iranians had lost faith in the electoral process
What “electoral process” are we talking about? What good is an “electoral process” if the “elected representative” doesn’t do much more than make incendiary speeches and incite violence.
Further…
The Iranian opposition, including Mr Khatami and the defeated presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi, say the election was rigged.
Is Mousavi part of a real opposition? The man who, as Prime Minister, officiated over the cold blooded murder of thousands and thousands of innocent civilians during the Iran-Iraq War is now the opposition?
It’s almost like pitting Stalin against Lenin. Or, Hitler v. Stalin. Both are different shades of the same kind of evil.
Unless we start talking about replacing the Ayatollahs, there’s no revolution, there’s no change. Even if Mousavi does get installed in the Presidency, what else will be different?
