Drudge reports unashamedly about “The Emergence of Obama’s Muslim Roots”:
Apparently, the offending quote from the linked article is:
“the President himself experienced Islam on three continents before he was able to — or before he’s been able to visit, really, the heart of the Islamic world — you know, growing up in Indonesia, having a Muslim father — obviously Muslim Americans (are) a key part of Illinois and Chicago.”
So, why is being Muslim continuing to be such a slur used by conservatives like Drudge? I am a Conservative Muslim Republican and I find it offending that my religion is constantly attacked by xenophobic, racist media talking heads and congressmen such as Sensenbrenner and King. I supported McCain and campaigned against Obama because of his socialist beliefs. I found it disconcerting that Republicans and conservatives constantly attacked Obama merely because of his middle name “Hussein” and it is amazing that they still do so.
Obama lived among Muslim communities in Indonesia, but what is wrong with that? Even if he attended so-called “extremist/Islamist madrasas” as a child, why does it matter now? Obama is a Christian now. He attends church and has, time and again, affirmed his belief in Jesus Christ. Still, his international and even Muslim upbringing adds to his understanding of immigrants and Muslims, both important constituents in the United States.
Obama has been elected President by over 51% of the population. That’s a clear majority. Now can we get over his Muslim roots? It is time for Republicans and conservatives to MoveOn.
