A Privilege to Enter Canada?

This past weekend I was told by a Canadian Border Patrol officer at the Point Roberts, WA, border crossing that it was a “privilege” for American citizens to enter Canada. This was after we were asked to pull over for some additional checking.

Now, I wasn’t surprised that those Cannucks at Point Roberts wanted to show their importance by pulling over and harassing Americans. I noticed that all cars waiting for “additional checks” at the crossing were Americans. The officers were rude and there wasn’t even enough room for the 8 or 10 Americans waiting inside their shit-hole.

We were made to wait almost an hour while an officer inspected our truck and, uh, made some “checks.” The officers were quite stupid too. One of them kept asking: where will you be staying? where will you be staying in Vancouver? We had already told them we were there only for a day. But the officer couldn’t really figure it out.

What made me laugh was when the officer asked if we were just going to drive around Vancouver. What, tourists don’t travel to Canada?

Next up was another laugh-out-loud moment. I asked why we were being checked when we had crossed into Canada through Blaine only “5 minutes” ago without incident – the time frame was only figurative, meant to imply that we had “just” crossed a border a short while back. The officer took that literally and said: “the border is at least 20 minutes away.” What?! I had to suppress my laughter, with much effort.

Another stupid question… one of the officers asked why we were going to Canada. So, we said that we were just visiting Vancouver; to get some Indian food; maybe some shopping. So he asked why? I wanted to jump and slap that guy right there. Why would you get Indian food? Why would you shop? Why what? Stupid Canadian immigration officers.

Now, it is not a privilege for anybody to enter Canada, especially Americans. Most people in Canada fall under the following categories:

1. They are on the way to USA or waiting to enter the USA – this is especially true for Asians and immigrants.

2. They wish they were! Canadians come to the USA for work, study, shopping, and pretty much everything else. Heck, 90% of them live within a few miles of the border.

3. They couldn’t get into the USA. I am sorry I know most Canadians are nice, but Canada isn’t.

4. They are too stupid to understand that continuing to pay 40%+ of your hard earned income to the government only to wait 3 months to see a specialist doctor is just plain idiotic. Socialism and socialized medicine is for dummies.

Well, dear Canadian border officers, I am sure that you too wished that you worked for the other side, the American side, the good side. So, next time you act time like assholes when dealing with Americans, remember that your country wouldn’t exist were it not for the USA.
