When does the honeymoon end?

It has been 84 days since Obama was sworn in, but our honeymoon just doesn’t seem to end. Clinton’s lovemaking with the media lasted barely a few weeks. Bush Jr. wasn’t really accorded that pleasure because the media was all to ready to accept Gore as their President.

But, Obama continues to enjoy his superstar status in the domestic and international media establishment. His media claque continues to blindly applaud everything he does, even if it involves some major flip-flopping. I decided to search WashingtonPost.com, an important representative of the media establishment, today for stories on Obama. This is what I found:

Talking Fashion – extolling Michele Obama’s sense of style

Obama tempers optimism with reality on economy – how Obama’s “broad domestic agenda is the path to recovery”

In Georgetown Speech, Obama Offers Cautious Optimism – how Obama’s vision will create a “new era of U.S. economic prosperity”

And, on and on and on. I couldn’t find a single critical article in the past few days, despite the fact that Obama continues the Bush era policy on wiretaps and citizen surveillance, despite vigorously campaigning against anything and everything Bush. The media had covered this story for weeks on end during Bush’s term, but since Obama was inaugurated, we barely hear a squeak from the claquers.

What ticked me off was a breaking news alert WaPo sent out on April 11:

The First Puppy Makes a Big Splash

The biggest mystery of the Obama White House’s first 100 days has been revealed: The first puppy — the one that the Washington press corps has been yelping about for months — is a 6-month-old Portuguese water dog given to Malia and Sasha as a gift by Sen. Edward M. Kennedy. The little guy’s name? Bo.

We have wars going on – our wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, civil wars; political crises in Pakistan and other countries; high seas piracy off Somalia; hundreds of thousands of Americans losing their jobs. And, the only breaking news alert that WaPo could send out involved a puppy gifted to the Obamas?
